Gina Carano from Terror on the Prairie, in olde west clothes, looking at herself in a broken mirror with the fake subtitle "I could have been someone, I could have been a contender..."

Gina Carano – 2 years later

So, a little over 2 years ago I wrote about the hilarity of Gina Carano trying to sue Disney for the consequences of her own actions, namely to compare modern day conservatives to Jews in Nazi Germany.1Gina Carano v. The Walt Disney Company, 2:24-cv-01009, (C.D. Cal. Feb 06, 2024) [Carano v. Disney]

About 6 months ago she reached a settlement with Disney, claiming she was smiling and grateful to Elon Musk for funding her lolsuit. Oh how I laughed. But, was this sincere or just more acting by the former MMA fighter? Well, let’s see.

I. THE CASE

While various people who make their livings off making YouTube videos screaming about things they maybe heard about, then putting it up with a weird thumbnail and bold and all caps, want you to believe this was a victory and Gina got paid etc, etc. We will never know the specifics of the lawsuit.

A. Great Comedy

Perhaps the funniest part about this was that one member of Gina’s counsel, Eugene Volokh, a professor of law with University of California, Los Angeles, for 30 years—with a distinctly libertarian bent and a long and glorious history of essentially saying that the government shouldn’t get involved in anything relating to speech.

In 2022 he wrote an extensive piece which, amongst many things – essentially argued that firing employees could be constitutionally protected if it “conveys a message to the public”,2Eugene Volokh “Should the Law Limit Private-Employer-Imposed Speech Restrictions?“, 2 Journal of Free Speech Law 269. (2022), at 279 invokes “sub-constitutional right not to associate”,3Above, at 283-286 and that restrictions on firing employees over differences “might unfairly require employers to keep paying employees who are more trouble than they are worth.”4Above, at 287-288, & 298 Volokh was now on the legal team who’s complaint began with:5Carano v. Disney, (Feb 6, 2024) ECF No. 1, at 2

A short time ago in a galaxy not so far away, Defendants made it clear that only one orthodoxy in thought, speech, or action was acceptable in their empire, and that those who dared to question or failed to fully comply would not be tolerated. And so it was with Carano. After two highly acclaimed seasons on The Mandalorian as Rebel ranger Cara Dune, Carano was terminated from her role as swiftly as her character’s peaceful home planet of Alderaan had been destroyed by the Death Star in an earlier Star Wars film.

Disney pointed this out in their motion to dismiss.6Carano v. Disney, above n 1, (Apr 09, 2024) ECF No. 33, at 16 Carano’s lead counsel, Donald Falk, then submitted the whole article as evidence to try to prove this was a hilarious mistake on his part.7Carano v. Disney, above n 1, (May 09, 2024) ECF No.37-1 A month later, he swapped out as lead counsel8Carano v. Disney, above n 1, (Jun 12, 2024) and did not participate further in the action on which he drafted the complaint.

This was, in legal terminology: very funny.

B. Not Great Plan

Even without the fact that the Carano team hired a lawyer who’s own body of work contradicted their complaint, this still was not a good plan on any level. The first action was filed in February and Disney’s motions to dismiss and other paperwork dragged it out so they didn’t even file a response until August – they basically got six months free to work on their strategy.

As I covered, all Gina’s damages were highly speculative and courts hate speculating on the theoretical value of a contract you might have gotten if everything went well. Sure maybe the Nazis who compare themselves to Jews (for the purposes of spreading antisemitism and other kinds of hate) demographic would make a Cara Dune spinoff a mega-hit, but what if it just didn’t work or Disney didn’t end up making it because a their resources all went to hotter projects? What if it was running out of steam by the time they were ready to green light the project? What if Disney taints the brand by using watching an episode of the Mandalorian as a reason they can’t be liable for wrongful death?9Anna Betts “Disney defends use of streaming terms to block restaurant allergy death lawsuit” (15 August 2024) The Guardian <www.theguardian.com> Judges don’t want to try to calculate that or ask juries to.

Even if it didn’t get thrown out on any of Disney’s 23 affirmative defences (which included that Carano had acted so badly since the event she was definitely the celebrity of radioactive waste)10Carano v. Disney, above n 1, (Aug 23, 2024) ECF No. 58, at 25-30, particularly 28

So it seems a large part of her strategy was going to be to get famously likeable, wholesome and popular actors Pedro Pascal11Ingrid Vasquez “Pedro Pascal Slams J.K. Rowling’s Anti-Trans Views Again: ‘Bullies Make Me F—— Sick’” (24 June 2025) People <people.com> and Mark Hamill12Matt Patches & Mark Hamill “Star Wars’ Mark Hamill reaffirms ‘if you want Luke Skywalker to be gay, he is’” (14 April 2026) Polygon <www.polygon.com> on the stand and ask them if they had been bullied by Disney over their anti-Trump posts.

This is before you consider that Gina is, herself, not a great witness since a month after she started the law suit she made a fuss of “still texting” Pedro,13Anthony Breznican “Gina Carano Has No Ill Will Toward Pedro Pascal” (14 March 2024) Vanity Fair <www.vanityfair.com> but has since admitted that was not, in fact still text Pedro.14Tom Phillips “After Teasing Potential Star Wars Return, Fired The Mandalorian Actress Admit She Hasn’t Spoken To Pedro In Over 2 Years” (26 April 2026) IGN <www.ign.com>

What a great plan. Can’t see any way that would have backfired.

C. Nothing burger

While right-wing chuds and ignorant drama channels were insisting the settlement was a huge win for Gina – it really wasn’t.

Prior to her cancellation she was on the way to finally making the transition into popular acting she’d been trying for ever since retiring as a fighter. She was looking at potentially becoming a broadly marketable celebrity and that would have made her able to get big gigs, with big residuals.

The only caveat in her favour was that Disney openly agreed to was they would “look forward to identifying opportunities to work together with Ms. Carano in the near future.”.15Katcy Stephan “Gina Carano, Disney Settle Legal Dispute Over ‘Mandalorian’ Firing: ‘We Look Forward to Identifying Opportunities to Work Together in the Future” (7 August 2025) Variety <variety.com>

Some people claim that Gina got money from Disney, but as anyone who follows the Karl Jobst drama can attest, settlements don’t always mean payments and given what Gina’s been up to lately—it seems likely whatever money she did get was not much.

II. GINA’S CAREER

So, it was generally agreed that after a rough start, the role of Cara Dune was her hitting her stride and represented a once in a lifetime opportunity to get one of those lucrative long-term Disney roles. So, what did she go into afterwards?

A. Daily Wire

The first, and perhaps funniest pivot that was pitched as a big win for Carano was with Ben Shapiro’s floundering media company that is almost entirely dependent on its stance a hate speech generator – The Daily Wire.

A still from "Terror on the Prarie" where Gina is looking at herself in a broken mirror.
Gina Carano confronting her worst enemy.

Originally, Gina was going to develop and produce as well as star in Terror on the Prairie,16Terror on the Prairie (15 June 2022) The Daily Wire a visibly low budget western film that inexplicably references The Civil War and doesn’t let Gina do what she’s famous for. Instead she gets to be a generic farm wife until the end where she gets to stab a dude, and shoot people.

So, either Gina got overruled on everything and may as well have been any generic actress, or she actually earned her producer credit and confirmed she is inept at that as well as subpar as an actress.

Anyway the target audience of The Daily Wire hated it be cause they thought Gina showing off 10% of what she is actually capable of on film was “woke”.17Christian Zilko “Gina Carano’s New Ben Shapiro-Produced Movie Is Somehow Still Too Woke for Some Right-Wingers” (14 January 2023) IndieWire <www.indiewire.com> It flopped, even by their standards and mysteriously they haven’t announced any projects with her in the intervening 3 years.

B. Netflix

Most recently, Gina has been selling up that she was going to have a live fight with fellow cancelled reactionary Ronda Rousey.

A Netflix poster for Ronda Rousey vs. Gina Carano. They have dramatic poses, Rousey has plain boxers and sports bra, Caranoa has loose hair and skirt - both weirdly have a bare foot visible.
Some joke about showing feet here…

Not only is this pathetic on a level of Jake Paul‘s attempts to be a real fighter by hiring retired fighters to tie with him – but Gina and Ronda have so little juice they’re not even an event unto themselves. They’re 33% of an event that basically nobody but the fighters cares about.

A posted for the event showing it was a triple event, 3 fights in 1 night.
None of them look happy to be involved in this, nor should they.

Everyone I know who enjoys combat sports hated every aspect of this, many assumed it was a play by Jake Paul to make his own defeat in the ring no longer be the most humiliating thing in the field in a while.

One thing’s for sure though, no matter what they claim regarding viewing stats, etc, there were a lot of empty seats. 18(17 May 2026) Inuit Dome Facebook <www.facebook.com>

C. Womp Womp

Part of the reason Gina doesn’t have juice, is because she’s made it impossible for people to enjoy her previous work. The appeal of her earlier movies (aside from watching her beat the snot out of Michael Fassbender in Haywire) was they had a degree of novelty and it had the feeling of watching someone with promise in their early stages of becoming an actor.19Susan Granger “HAYWIRE – Review” (20 January 2012) Alliance of Women Film Journalists <awfj.org>

Now they’re just, awkward. It’s embarrassing to think that this used to be an interesting experiment.

There can really be no further evidence of this than while Netflix does have dedicated pages for her movies like Haywire – but hasn’t re-licensed them or any other films she’s in as part of the build up to her fight.

Literally the only things she’s in that Netflix recommends me are the fight, and the pre-fight “documentary”.

She really did just like, reset her film career to zero and go downhill.

III. GINA’S PUBLIC IMAGE

Okay so Gina doesn’t have juice, and has poisoned anything that could potentially give her juice. But does she still have some sort of public image?

Not one that she wants.

A. Confirmed loser

In September, there was a big fuss made by Gina that she had been signed to play the lead in “Logan Reign”20Dominic Patten “Gina Carano Signs Up For Vegas Crime Series ‘Logan Reign’; Teaming With ‘Get Out’ Producers For First TV Project Since ‘Mandalorian‘” (19 September 2025) Deadline <deadline.com> only for it to be confirmed almost immediately that the series had not been signed with any production company.21Emma Keates “Gina Carano sets out new show with a couple of Get Out‘s producers” (19 September 2025) A.V. Club <https://www.avclub.com> To date it remains so unnoteworthy that the IMDB page is just… blank.

She actually has so little juice she had to sign up with a talent and production company for whom her Netflix fight is their biggest event.22Straightwire Entertainment Group Instagram <www.instagram.com> Like, this whole company seems to be 4 people – all of whom are claiming greatness by proximity (“I worked with…”, “I was mentored by…”) and who’s movies brag they had a bit part actor from Game of Thrones.23Straight Wire Entertainment Group <www.straightwireentgroup.com> They are not serious people.

The company putting on the fight that she’s 1/6th of? Yeah, as alluded to, that’s Most Valuable Promotions, literally the one that Jake Paul co-owns and uses to set up his widely ridiculed fights. For the fight, they rented the stadium that the Los Angeles Clippers were lured away from the Crypto.com stadium for.

When the time for her fight came, she only lasted 17 seconds.

B. Her “Friends” Hate Her

Gina’s most recent promotional work is done by Evie Magazine, a niche rag which claims to be about celebrating femininity but defines it in such a way that want to promote tradwives and AI, but also villify birth control and progressive politics.

A screenshot from the site, with vagina wall pink theme and headlines: "I'm A Tradwife Influencer—Here Are My Thoughts On 'Yesteryear'", "The Consequences of Progressive Parent" and "My Husband And I Tried Using AI To Improve Our Sex Life. Here's What Happened."
As if starring in “My Son Hunter” didn’t do her reputation enough damage…

They started giving a shit about Gina when she got herself in trouble and cheered her on, making seem glamorous and empowering.24Brittany Martinez “Gina Carano On Pursuing Freedom In A World That Demand Conformity” (2 August 2021) evie <www.eviemagazine.com> After she settled with Disney their primary interest in Gina Carano was using her miscarriage as a basis to post anti-choice rhetoric.25Carmen Schober “Gina Carano Reveals Tragic Miscarriage Experience And Her Journey To Healing” (21 August 2024) evie <www.eviemagazine.com> They have a recent interview with her, “Gina Carano: The Comeback Queen” but it’s paywalled and has already aged like milk – all you can read for free is that yeah life sucked for her when she killed her career.26Carmen Schober “Gina Carano: The Comeback Queen” (29 April 2016) evie <www.eviemagazine.com> The opposite of their first article.

As covered, the Daily Wire dropped her like a hot rock after using her to pretend they were supportive – unbothered by their audience dismissing the movie for not being degrading enough. They Daily Wire crowd don’t want to see Gina can do action like a conservative woman, they want her to be a sock puppet who says she should have spent her life barefoot and pregnant.

Elon hasn’t mentioned her in ages – in fact he’s only posted at her on X twice (both times a single emoji) and is unbothered that even Grok agrees she deserved to lose the lawsuit.27(30 April 2026) Grok (@grok) X née Twitter <x.com> (📸 snapshot)

Rousey and Jake Paul are both fucking thrilled, about the 17 seconds, despite the obvious fact it means it was the opposite of a great fight.28Ronda Rousey & Most Valuable Promotions Instagram <www.instagram.com>

It honestly couldn’t have gone worse for her of Rousey and Paul had taken turns tea-bagging her in the ring (which I assume didn’t happen, I didn’t watch the fight). That’s before you factor in that before it Ronda was saying she wanted to get Gina in the ring ’cause she thought she looked unhealthy due to weight gain and she owed immensely.29Jorge Alonso “Gina Carano Shows Off Stunning Body Transformation & Weight Loss Ahead of California Fight Vs Ronda Rousey” (12 March 2026) brobible <brobible.com>

C. Her Wins Are Loses

Terror on the Prairie was obvious, not only did it gross five figures but it was rejected by its niche target audience.

But believe it or not, it was better than the other movie she did that I haven’t talked about. Robert Davi‘s My Son Hunter,30Robert Davi My Son Hunter (7 September 2022) Breitbart News where Gina, as “Agent Hound”, got to deliver an awkward line read right to the camera for the trailer. She had to fly all the way to Serbia for the chance to ensure she’d be known as a right-wing crackpot.

No wonder she hasn’t gotten an acting job since. Even her call with Jon Favreau was quickly overshadowed by her alienation.31Tom Phillips “After Teasing Potential Star Wars Return, Fired The Mandalorian Actress Admit She Hasn’t Spoken To Pedro In Over 2 Years”, above n 14

Signing up with Jake Paul’s fight company for a publicity bought against Rousey had cemented that she has no future in serious fights before either stepped into the ring. That she lost in 17 seconds just illustrated to the public why the fight-enjoyer crowd hated the whole thing.

That it coincides with The Mandolorian and Grogu doing worse than Solo (which is to say better than most non-Disney films), so even if Disney did let her play Cara Dune again it’d be because they figure it’s out of gas.

The Alliance of Women Film Journalists, which nominated Gina for an award in 2012 for being a kick ass action star,”2012 EDA Awards Nominess” (2012) Alliance of Women Film Journalists <awfj.org> let her share a “hall of shame” award nomination in 2021 alongside Nikki Minaj and Letitia Wright for using celebrity status to spread anti-vax propaganda.32“2021 EDA Awards Nominees” (2021) Alliance of Women Film Journalists <awfj.org> (she lost to the Rust crew over the bit where Alec Baldwin shot his female director)33“2021 EDA Award Winners” (2021) Alliance of Women Film Journalists <awfj.org>

Saddest of all, she basically has to pretend that it went okay actually. A week ago she posted a “Thanks for love and support. Back to the drawing board.”34Gina Carano (20 May 2026) @ginacarano X née Twitter <x.com> message the day after positing that the 17 second fight with Rousey was “one of the best rides of my life. I felt locked in fight night. No fear just focused positive adrenaline.” Weirdest of all “I needed to go through this fight to implement permanent lifestyle changes and now I feel this is just the beginning.”35Gina Carano (19 May 2026) @ginacarano X née Twitter <x.com>

IV. CONCLUSION

The saddest thing about Gina is how she doesn’t seem to realize that she’s simply being passed down a chain of increasingly worst men who are using her with no regard for the harm it does her.

It’s particularly ridiculous since these are the same demographic of people who used to belittle her—and heartbreaking given all the potential she used to have, and who everyone wanted to believe she was.

First it was MMA in general, then she climbed into Hollywood. For a brief moment, she seemed on the cusp of being able to spin it into something. She’d been in big hits (Fast and Furious 6) and worked with big directors (Steven Soderbergh directed Haywire), and was working her way up to a regular Disney gig – then she just had to shoot her mouth off.

Elon Musk used her for a publicity stunt and one of his many fake promises (to fund anyone who lost their job due to posts on his platform, he definitely won’t be following up on that after Charlie Kirk).

There was never any reason for a serious person to believe that law suit had merit, and she got the kind of legal representation you invariably get (and deserve) when you shop around until you find someone who tells you that you did nothing wrong, and definitely deserve compensation.

Then it was Ben Shapiro, then Robert Davi… now she’s been used and discarded by Jake Paul. All of those ventures were clearly doomed to fail from the beginning and her willingness to wander into them is unsettling.

Particularly since apparently she’s been with her husband, Kevin Ross, since 2015 (about midway through her rise in Hollywood) and now they live on a farm in Montana.36Edward Lewis “Gina Carano’s husband, Kevin Ross, shares intimate details of couple’s secret wedding” (11 March 2026) New York Post <nypost.com> That combined with the whole appealing to a tradwife magazine, and her hinting at her need to make big lifestyle changes, does not bode well.37Rebecca Watson ““Trad Wife” Farmers Actually Lead Horrible Lives” (25 November 2024) SkepChick <skepchick.org>

  1. Well, I’ll be damned. If this isn’t the perfect illustration of the consequences of siding with conservative RWs if you’re a woman.
I can’t get over this career suicide, entirely self-inflicted, entirely avoidable.
